February is

American Heart Month!

February is a month dedicated to love, so let’s protect our hearts by helping to prevent heart disease! ¬†Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in the United States, especially in women. We’ve found a couple helpful tips on planning for prevention.

  1. Maintain a Healthy Lifestyle- Lifestyle choices are important in preventing heart disease. Eat a healthy diet, including fruits and veggies while limiting foods high in salt, cholesterol, and trans fats. We know it sounds cliche but you are what you eat! Exercise regularly to keep a healthy weight. Don’t smoke, it only increases your chances to get heart disease.
  2. Monitor Your Health-¬†Go to the doctor regularly to have your blood pressure and cholesterol checked! Follow your doctor’s instructions when taking medications and managing any other diseases you may have such as diabetes.
